Called WoofWoof, the new service -- still in beta mode -- is a revolutionary "pet-to-pet" (P2P) communications technology that decodes noises from dogs and converts them into status updates in English. Designed by British Animal Research Kennels (BARK), the WoofWoof system uses a sophisticated matrix of audio and analytical tools to translate dogs' audible signals and turn them into text that can be shared on social media such as Facebook. To make use of WoofWoof, customers simply need to go to www.talktalk.co.uk/woofwoof, download the software onto their computer, plug in a microphone and let their pet bark at it. WoofWoof then uses its cutting-edge Donglish™ technology to automatically translate these sounds into English and publish them on the internet for humans and animals alike to enjoy. BARK's scholars have compiled years of scientific research into canine communications across the globe to create the world's most comprehensive canine linguistic dataset. Around 14% of dog owners who use social media websites have set up accounts for their faithful companions, which means there are an estimated 439,000 dogs on Facebook in the UK. The typical dog on Facebook has 83 friends, rapidly catching up on the average human user, who has 130 friends. Mark Schmid from TalkTalk said: "Canine social networking is a big market and it's growing rapidly. There are nearly half a million dog profiles on sites like Facebook. Currently they rely on their human owners to provide their status updates , but we wanted to give dogs a better social networking experience by letting them share their own thoughts and feelings directly. "In other words, we want to help dogs across the nation communicate better with their pedigree chums." Initially, WoofWoof is available on Facebook, but LinkedIn and Twitter apps are in development.
